Our Vision is to create an Africa where menstruation does not hold any woman or girl back. We will always fight for those who bleed. We fight for menstrual freedom.
Who We Are
The Period Company is a Zimbabwean registered organisation that seeks to improve the period experience for African women and girls. We believe in improving quality of life for women and girls. Menstruation is a natural and routine part of life, but in Zimbabwe it is accompanied by shame, fear and cultural barriers. Without education from parents and teachers, girls often begin their period in isolation, without any understanding of what is happening to their bodies.
Our Why
We believe a confident girl grows into a confident woman. A confident girl speaks up and is not afraid to share her opinion. At The Period Company we believe that when young girls are confident and secure about who they are, they're more likely to have a growth mindset. That means they can motivate themselves to take on new challenges and cope with and learn from mistakes. They're also more likely to stand up for themselves and ask for help when they need it. When girls start going through their pre pubescent age, their confidence often drops and self esteem plummets as they try to deal with changes happening to their bodies and the onset of their monthly period. We want to be part of raising confident generations of women.
How We Do it
The Period Company works to build awareness, commitment, and access to improved menstrual care. Through menstrual health management and awareness programs. Improving research and development of menstrual cups and availability of biodegradable, reusable pads and leak proof underwear. Through advocacy and awareness raising, we hope to end the silence around menstruation.
